By Cautious-Tadpole-215+19 Mega Millions has fewer tickets sold but more draw sales since the price increase
I see a lot of people commenting that Mega Millions made a huge mistake with the price hike, but while this resulted in fewer tickets sold, enough people are playing each draw to result in higher draw sales than before the price increase. Data on tickets sold and draw sales can be found on these two links, respectively:
https://www.lottoreport.com/ticketcomparison.htm and https://www.lottoreport.com/salescomparison.htm
For example, if Mega Millions was averaging 10 million tickets sold each draw at $2 a pop, that's $20 million in draw sales. If the price increase to $5 cuts tickets sold in half to 5 million per draw, they're still making $25 million in draw sales -- a five million dollar increase in sales. So while the increase was bad from the player's perspective, enough people are still playing to make the price increase more lucrative for the Multi-State Lottery Association.
Just enough people have continued playing to justify the increase, unfortunately.

+11 @Suspicious-Hold2138 you have better odds on any 5 dollar scratch off card been playing mega 30 years never won a prize
+11 @notsure05 You’re thinking short term and so is MM. That’s not gonna last once people realize it’s going to take multiple years to get over $1B, and less tickets being sold overall means even lesser chances of someone hitting jackpot. I think right now MM is relying on people continuing to buy as a default because they’re used to buying MM, however once the realization hits that this is truly even more abysmal odds of getting any kind of win with the price increase and reduced ticket sales, people will start switching to buying other lotteries and MM will be forced to reduce price
